First days in Delhi.

Bah! Sorry for the lack of posts. As imagined, it has been a whirlwind of a week so far. I arrived in Delhi last Saturday a little before midnight. The flight was a lot easier than I thought, I slept a lot, which resulted in waking up at 5 am the next morning. It was not deathly hot at that hour, which is rare, therefore appreciated. The first week was incredibly full of stuff, and possibly the longest week of my life. Not necessarily in a bad way, there was just so much going on, and of course, lots of stimulation.
The first day, Sunday, we were broken into pairs and assigned a peer guide to take us to various parts of the city. My partner was a boy who was actually born and raised in Delhi, but is going to school in the states. His mom is a US-American, therefore he has citizenship. He is doing the program for different reasons than the majority of us. Anyways, it was nice being with him because I got two perspectives
and even more insights into the city. We went to Raj Ghat, the site where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. It was a simple memorial, and incredibly hot, so we quickly left and went to a market that was also hot.
On Monday we started our intensive Hindi class, which is three hours daily for two weeks. In my opinion, it is too much Hindi at once. We have SO many vocab words. As well as a new alphabet to learn. We've have six days of it thus far, and have only learned about 30 of the 52 letters. So our evenings comprise of studying. And letter writing.
This week we have done quite a bit, most of which I will not bore you with. We did do some interesting things, including listening to a lecture on Bharatanatyam dance, and later watching a performance.
At this point I can't even remember what we did. This weekend a couple of the boys and I went to the Baha'i temple in Delhi. Of which. I've posted a picture. We had a re
ally incredibly personal tour from one of the volunteers. The three of us decided to visit a different religious site every couple weeks or so, because there is so much here to see. The religious and cultural diversity is pretty astounding. Hopefully we can keep that up.
I think I'm done writing for now, I have more Hindi to study. I will try and post more often/with less lame stuff.
:)
